7 vs Vista - x64 Ultimate Editions - A month of 7

I've been using Windows 7 now for a month this week and it's been great. As you may or may not recall, I have installed both Vista x64 Ultimate and 7 x64 Ultimate on the same computer, my main computer that I have been using for over 3 years now. A Dual Core x64 AMD 4400, ATI x1800XT in crossfire mode, 3gb of ram, and 7200 SATAII drives (same drives too)

After being in 7 for a month without having to go back to my old hard drive to gather any data up, thanks to Mesh synchronizing everything for me, I just haven't had to go into Vista. Well I've been putting off going back into Vista to get my iTunes library information so I finally broke down and did.

Let me tell you that there is a HUGE difference in performance from Vista to 7, remember, same hardware. Vista is just like a slug compared to 7. I couldn't believe how sluggish and just how much longer things take to compute. It's just amazing!!!

This is mainly for the geeks out there that really want to compare the two side by side but I recommend getting 7 and running it up against your copy of Vista. It is like night and day! I have a hard drive bay that I use to swap hard drives out, it sits in a CD drive bay and it's seamless, shut down, swap, boot up. I have XP 64, Vista x64 and 7 x64 that I use to swap out. (Vista x64 will be going bye bye when I make sure I have everything. XP64 is my gaming system).

It's truly amazing the speed difference. Unless you do a comparison or upgrade to 7, you will not know how much 7 "feels".

Good job Microsoft for fixing something when people make a stink about it.

AT&T MicroCell

Since my AT&T signal sucks so badly in my neighborhood, I got the new AT&T MicroCell. Works like a champ! 5 glorious 3G bars!. Granted, for $25 more, I could have gone to Verizon and had full signal no matter what but I'd lose my iPhone. For $150 bucks, it works fine that is the buy outright price or you can get unlimited calling for $15 a month. Always a way to rip you off.

So I got the unlimited microcell minutes just to get the rebate on it and then I am going to cancel that. The rebate is $100. So pay $30 bucks for the unlimited and so I'll get back $70 on the rebate at the end of the day. Not bad, I can handle that.

Microsoft Security Essentials Currently Testing...

Uninstalled AVG 9 Free as it was getting big and bloated. It's like 65-90mb whereas the MSE weighs in at 7mb in size. So we shall see what it is like. I'll keep you posted.

Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft just release Microsoft Security Essentials or MSE. I will try it out and post a mini review of it. It's only 7mb in size and scans for all malware so we'll see I suppose. I'll give it a whirl and see what it is like. Keep you posted.

iPhone and Google Apps

There is a funny thing with the iPhone and using Exchange sync with Google Sync. It works perfectly fine when on the ATT network but when you connect up to a WLAN, it says password is incorrect. Disconnect from the WLAN, it works fine. Go figure.

But set the email side from iPhone Exchange settings to a regular GMail IMAP settings, it works perfectly fine. So it sounds like it's an iPhone Exchange issue. I don't know but use IMAP to ensure it's working ok.

Google Apps Sync and iPhone

Ran across something interesting with the iPhone Exchange Sync and Google Apps passwords. I don't know if this is always the case but I had to change a password that had the "@" symbol in it to something with just numbers and letters on a client. It kept saying wrong password. After I changed it, it was fine and worked perfectly. iPhone Bug? probably so because the password worked fine on Google Sync for the Blackberry so it is an iPhone issue. Letting you know if your password doesn't work on the iPhone and Google Apps.

Windows 7 Upgrade

Please to announce that Windows 7 Pro successfully upgraded Windows Vista Business. It took freaking forever and a day to do, probably about 4 hours on a dual core, 64 bit, 3 gb worth of ram system. But I'm happy to say it worked fine and everything went over fine. Quite nice. Probably the best upgrade Microsoft has ever put together, in my opinion. Your mileage my vary of course...

Google Voice

Got my Google Voice Invite!!!! Signed up and my number is 678.453.8924. It's pretty cool because it will save voicemails to gmail, can listen to them and they can also be transcribed as well! Once again, Thanks Google!
